The Cottage
Treat yourself to a change of pace. Escape to the country and experience the lazy charms of Chestnut Farm Cottage.
Staying
Set in the grounds of an established chestnut orchard, Chestnut Farm Cottage offers holiday accommodation with a difference. Nestled within extensive cool-climate gardens, the cottage is screened from the main farmhouse by mature trees and is far enough away to enjoy its own privacy – yet generally we are nearby if there’s anything you need.
Fully self-contained, the cottage provides cosy, studio-style accommodation that is perfect for couples. Those travelling solo are also more than welcome! Shady verandahs overlook the garden and orchards and all of the usual comforts combine with quality linen, luxurious towels and fresh flowers to add to the pleasure of your stay.
Get out and about and see what the area has to offer, or simply relax and enjoy a romantic break or the chance to leave the rat race behind. Stretch out and snooze on the lovely pale mahogany sleigh bed, potter around the garden or lose yourself in a book. The cottage has everything you need to help while away the hours, such as an LCD television, stereo system (iPod and MP3 compatible), a small but select library and collection of games to keep you occupied on those rainy days when you don’t feel like going out. Our summer evenings are usually pleasantly cool, but when the weather turns colder there is underfloor heating to keep things nice and toasty.

Dining
Bring your own provisions, the cottage is equipped with cooking and barbecue facilities so you can whip up a memorable feast in no time. There’s plenty of regional produce available locally (Stanley’s farm gate shops are renowned for their apples, cherries, pears, walnuts and berries) and you are welcome to pick fresh herbs from the garden – or chestnuts in season! – to add to your meal. We provide a selection of teas, ground coffee and hot chocolate for your enjoyment.
If you can’t be bothered cooking, nothing is more simple than to venture out for a meal nearby. It’s just a ten-minute stroll to the Stanley Pub or a ten-minute drive into Beechworth and, in an area renowned for its fine food and wine, you’ll have no trouble finding something to suit your palate! We’re more than happy to provide recommendations, all you have to do is ask.
Out and About
Set in a region loved for its rich heritage, natural beauty, wine and food experiences and excellent shopping, the area around Stanley and Beechworth is an idyllic place to explore at any time of year. We offer information about local sights, day spas, wineries and restaurants, so you can read up after you arrive and plan what you want to do with your day; if you prefer to plan ahead, www.beechworth.com and www.beechworthonline.com.au are great places to start.
At Chestnut Farm Cottage, you can relish the character of the changing seasons. Amble around the country garden in spring and enjoy the abundance of scents and blooms. Picnic under the chestnut trees in summer, or relax with a glass of local wine and watch the sun sink behind the Dingle Range.
In autumn, you can take part in our annual chestnut harvest or go for long walks through the golden landscape. The area around Stanley is also cycling heaven and, what with quiet country roads and the fabulous Rail Trail nearby, those on two wheels are well catered for. Winter brings its own delights – time to curl up with hot chocolate and a good book or simply come in out of the cold after a hectic day’s eating, wine tasting, sightseeing or skiing (the snowfields at Falls Creek are just a two-hour drive and we’re not too far from Mount Hotham either).
Do as much or as little as you like – that’s the whole point of a stay at Chestnut Farm Cottage.
